Premiums are increasing by an average of 5.0%. Here is how to review your costs and check what support may be available to your family.

Health insurance will cost more in 2027
The federal announcement of 29 September 2026 confirms an average premium increase of 5.0% for 2027. The mean premium will be CHF 412 per month across all insured people. Your own premium depends on factors including your location, age, insurer, insurance model and deductible.
When you are balancing work and family care, every franc matters. Take a moment to review your new premium notice.

Four things to check now
1. Compare your personal premium. Use Priminfo, the official federal comparison tool. Have your postcode, year of birth, model and deductible ready. Your own quote matters more than the national average.
2. Choose a suitable model. Alternative insurance models can be cheaper. Check that the model’s rules fit your everyday life. A higher deductible means paying more yourself if you need care. Compare annual total costs, not just monthly premiums. Priminfo saving tips.
3. Check premium subsidies. Depending on your income and family circumstances, your canton may cover part of your premium. Procedures and deadlines vary, and you may need to apply. A change in your financial situation is another reason to check. FOPH information and cantonal contacts.
4. Note the switching deadline. To switch basic insurance on 1 January 2027, your current insurer must receive your cancellation by 30 November 2026. The postmark is not enough. Send it early and register with the new insurer in parallel. Supplementary insurance has separate rules and deadlines: do not cancel it automatically alongside basic cover. Switching checklist.
Do you care for a family member?
Your daily contribution deserves attention too. Pflegeklar offers a free assessment of whether employment for your family care could be possible. This is separate from the premium increase and requires an individual review.
