Comparing family care providers: 6 useful questions

A suitable provider explains pay, support and terms clearly. Take these questions to your first conversation.

1–2. Who employs me, and what does the quoted pay include?

Ask for the employer’s name and authorisation for your canton. Ask about gross and net pay, holiday pay, other supplements and deductions. Two hourly rates are only comparable when they include the same components.

3–4. Which hours count, and who supports me?

How are care needs assessed? Which tasks are recorded and paid? Who is your regular nursing contact, how often do you meet and who helps outside normal hours? Ask for concrete answers rather than only a maximum amount.

5–6. What costs and contract terms apply?

Clarify course fees, care cost contributions, the start date and notice period. If there is a bonus, ask when it is paid and what conditions apply. Write down outstanding questions before signing.
